Importance Of Chardham Yatra

According to Hindu dharma, the word ‘chardham’ itselfis a sacred term. Chardham Yatra has a lot of religious significance in Hindu religion. It is the ultimate desire of every Hindu to visit the holy shrines at least once in life time to attain salvation (Moksha). This is because it is believed that Chardham Yatra opens the gates of salvation by washing away the sins of a lifetime. It is also said that when a pilgrim finishes the Chardham Yatra, he attains absolute peace of mind.

Chota Char Dham are the famous four holy places of Hindu Pilgrimages, which are nestled among the lofty peaks of Himalayas in Uttarakhand. This hindu pilgrimage Char Dham circuit consists of four sites. The tradition is to visit the sites in the following order

  • Yamunotri, the source of the Yamuna River, and the shrine here seats goddess Yamuna.
  • Gangotri, located at Gomukh and the source of the Ganges (River Ganga), which is considered as the source of sanctity and purity
  • Kedarnath, where a form of the Hindu god Shiva is venerated as one of the twelve jyotirlings.
  • Badrinath, dedicated to Lord Vishnu, who is considered as the protector and preserver of the divine Hindu Trinity (Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva).
  • Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. All these locations are believed to be highly sacred by the Hindu religion.

A pilgrimage is an intimate experience, a direct connection between the seeker and the sacred. A devotee goes on pilgrimage to worship at holy shrines, to have darshan of Deities abiding in ancient sanctums. It is indeed a life-changing experience to have attained peace of mind and to contact with the Divine.
