Kedarkantha
The five day long kedarkantha trek starts from the village sankri situated around 200 km from Dehradun. The Road heads in to pine and oak forest of Govind wildlife sanctuary with the beautiful view of snow covered mountains. Kedarkantha is in the uttarkashi district of Uttrakhand.
History Of Kedarkantha
- Lord Shiv meditation - Lord shiva sat on the top of kedarkantha to meditate but was disturbed by a bull, he than moved to kedarnath to meditate in more peaceful place.
- The Pandavas- Some says that the pandavas traveled to kedarkantha for seeking the blessing of lord shiva.
- The name KEDARKANTHA means ‘’The Throat of Lord Shiva’’ also known as Kedar Khand.
How to reach?
To reach kedarkantha you can travel by Road air or train to Dehradun and than continue to sankri and than trek to kedarkantha
- The starting point of kedarkantha is sankri village the trek is of 4-6 days.
- Distance till the summit is 20 to 25 km at the height of 12500 feet.
- Kedarkantha trek is a moderate trek
- Best time for kedarkantha trek is fromNovember to april.
Important Things to know
- The temperature in the range is from 15 degree celsius to -5 degree celsius so carry lot of warm clothes to keep yourself safe.
- You have to get entry permits from the concerned officials before you start the trek and you will have to carry all the papers with you while you climb.
- You should carry good quality trekking shoes,Raincoats,water bottles,Torch and walking stick.
- Don’t carry more than 10kg of weight ,Avoid smoking ,always stay closed to your group .
- If you have any respiratory issues please avoid this trek.
Attractions
- Juda ka talab- It is an alpine lake that lies between the route to kedarkantha which is 3km from sankri. During winter season the lake gets completely frozen.
- Jakhol village-Located around 25 km from sankari. Jakhol is a beautiful village with wooden house and amazing mountain views .
- Saru tal lake- It is a trek to holy water of the sar lake placed at the elevation of 4200 m . It is 9 to 10 days trek that begins from sankari village. The temperature is saru tal is day time is moderate and the night gets cold.
- Mori- The village mori is a lovely township located at the edge of Tons river . In uttarkashi district of Uttrakhand holds a unique location in the heart of travellers.
